Those Who Raised Us

“Those Who Raised Us” is a photographic series exploring the concepts of upbringing, gender, influence, rejection, and acceptance within family structures. The queer young people in these photos are not only dressing up in their family member’s garments, but they are embodying their character and their essence, and at times even mourning their loss. They dress up in the garments of their mothers, grandmothers, grandfathers, and aunties who have accepted them, rejected them, ignored them, and loved them as they interact with their photographs taken from family albums and off the walls in their living rooms.
