In “Verano Mediterráneo” I capture Spaniards as they visit the beach during the summer days, particularly in the Southern region of the country. It is in the South, where I found myself being deeply moved by the communal spirit of the sea, where friends, and especially families, gathered to connect with one another and with the sun, the sand, the rocks, and the breeze. All these families made it a full-day pilgrimage, they brought board games, tents, and homemade dishes that could last for days. Grandparents went to the beach with their grandchildren, and siblings in their 50s and 60s dipped into the water as if they were children again. They did this before a global pandemic and during one.
